“Adventurous” is the word that Robert Kornacki uses to describe his life as an entrepreneur and independent developer so far.
This spirit of adventure has also manifested in his own personal life. After high school, Robert travelled extensively through Southeast Asia, oftentimes in search of delicious durian fruits. With a background in programming, project management and community engagement, Robert is focused on adding massive value to Cardano, the first third generation blockchain to evolve out of a research driven-approach. This research-driven approach inspires Robert to strive for the same high-quality standards in his own project, which he is developing with the support of dLab/EMURGO.
Robert’s goal is to solve the “Transaction Surety” problem within Cardano. Transaction Surety in blockchain is the certainty that the wallet address a person sends funds to is the correct intended address. Currently, this certainty can come into doubt, as Cardano addresses can easily be misentered by users. Solving this problem will minimize the risk and uncertainty that everyday users often report feeling when making transactions via blockchain. Today, Robert is helping lay the groundwork for Cardano’s mass adoption by creating a more trustworthy, safe, and simple Cardano ADA user experience.
As a long standing member of the community, Robert has followed Cardano since its launch in 2017. His passion for Cardano led him to work on Clio.1, an educational bridge between Cardano and the wider community that offers educational content for interested learners.
Developing Clio.1 into the educational resource it is today was only the start of Robert’s entrepreneurial adventure within the Cardano ecosystem. He has also been accepted as a dLab/EMURGO Fellow to achieve his goal of making transactions as user friendly and secure as possible. Robert is focused entirely on solving the Transaction Surety problem.
Robert believes that entrepreneurs are both born and made. A person who is born with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to blaze their own trail might need to develop the discipline and work ethic to deliver their vision in a practical way. Conversely, a person with a strong work ethic may need to push themselves to think outside the box and forge their own ideas. Robert’s background in functional programming, combined with his vision for Cardano, presents the perfect opportunity to improve the user experience for Cardano users globally.
Robert & The Road to dLab/EMURGO
Robert’s journey on the road to becoming a dLab/EMURGO Fellow began in December 2018 at PlutusFest, the event which introduced Cardano’s smart contract tools to the world. Attending PlutusFest inspired him to bridge the gap between the community and Cardano’s future smart contract platform by helping to develop Clio.1. It was during his time at PlutusFest that he was encouraged to apply for the dLab/EMURGO Fellowship program. His application led to several interviews, each of which brought new ideas and inspirations that he could apply to the project that is now his main focus. Robert’s goal of solving the Transaction Surety problem is to ensure no Cardano user accidentally sends funds to the wrong intended address.
His acceptance as a dLab/EMURGO Fellow gives Robert access to a world class network and a unique experience. Robert interacts with startups in the dLab/EMURGO Startup Accelerator Program, other members of the Fellowship program and EMURGO team members, such as Sebastien – R&D Engineering Lead at EMURGO, on a daily basis. This network allows ideas to be shared and fosters a spirit of collaboration. The experience of working with EMURGO is one that Robert is extremely excited about. Acceptance as a Fellow allows Robert to focus his time and energy solely on his project.
Robert’s Work as a dLab/EMURGO Fellow
Robert’s focus as a dLab/EMURGO Fellow is minimizing the risks to everyday users when transacting with ADA, Cardano’s native underlying cryptocurrency. At the moment, human error can often come into play when making a transaction. An example could be simply mistyping a letter in a wallet address someone wishes to send money to. As a result, feelings of uncertainty are common among users who make transactions. Robert wants to make sure that money gets to where it needs to go as easily as possible while minimizing the risks. This will help ensure that no one loses funds when transferring Cardano ADA due to human error.
To reach this goal, Robert is developing a number of tools which will make sending transactions much easier for everyday users. This includes building an invoice system, address book and a Cardano Name Service. The Cardano Name Service will be a distributed, open, and extensible naming system based on the Cardano blockchain. Cardano ADA addresses for sending and receiving funds are not user friendly to use, as they require a long and complex string of numbers and letters. Think about how difficult it would be to type in an IP address to visit a website, or how frustrating it would be to type in a long list of digits representing a person’s email address. Having user friendly ways of sending value are vital for everyday users as Cardano’s adoption continues to grow.
Ultimately, Robert wants to add these tools to Cardano ADA wallets (EMURGO-developed Yoroi and Daedalus). These tools will help provide peace of mind for users making transactions. This peace of mind is crucial for mass adoption. In the future, these solutions will minimize the risk of an error occurring and make the user experience more user friendly. The tools Robert is developing could potentially be used in tandem with EMURGO-developed Seiza, a Cardano blockchain explorer due for release by the end of May 2019 that will have more functions than any other blockchain explorer. Seiza will enable ADA holders to immediately track any of their transactions on the Cardano blockchain, which currently has validated more than 2.4 million blocks. This ability to track transactions will further improve the user experience of Cardano.
